Frank Green has been painting Liverpool landscapes for over fifty years. He works mainly in watercolour but also in oil, pen & ink, pastel, chalk, conté crayon and pencil.
Many of the scenes painted by Frank have since disappeared and his work now serves as a valuable record and tribute to his beloved home town. His most popular subjects include the Liverpool Waterfront, Everton and Liverpool FCs, the Mersey Ferry, and the Town Hall. He has also painted many streets, pubs and churches within such districts as Walton, Anfield, Mossley Hill, and the City Centre.
Frank’s original watercolour of ‘The Last Game of the Kop’ (seen here) will be auctioned at Bonhams Chester on Wednesday, 6th November 2013. Bidding starts at 11am.
This is a great opportunity to purchase this unique and iconic image of the most famous football terrace in the world: the Spion Kop.
Said Frank of his earliest memory of the Kop:“I watched my first game at Liverpool from the Boys Pen in 1954 when I was 10 years old. Liverpool were playing Middlesborough. They were joint bottom of the the First Division, and it was a needle match. Liverpool were 4-1 winners, and I think Johnny Evans scored a few goals. Billy Liddell and Brian Jackson were on the wings, and Larry Hughes, Geoff Twentyman and Roy Saunders made up the half-back line. The full backs were Lock and McNulty with Dave Underwood in goal. I had never heard anything like the Kop Roar, and standing with Peter (my brother) and his friends from Florence Melly School I was instantly hooked.” (Extract from Frank’s latest blog, The Kop at Liverpool FC.)
